A bit about Angela

My name is Angela Reid. I live in Redland, Bristol in a shared house with friends but I was born and brought up in Harrow, North West London. I'm not quite a complete Southerner as my parents are from Fife in Scotland!

As a teenager I led a busy life, swimming, playing the piano and going to the Guides outside of school. I also took part in public speaking and a lot of inter-school quizzes.

From the age of fourteen I was interested in becoming an aerospace engineer, and after doing Maths, Physics and History at A-level I headed to Bristol on the Airbus undergraduate apprentice scheme. After a year spent on the shop floor I went back to the books, reading Engineering at Selwyn. It was there that I met Tim. As the engineering course at Cambridge is general for the first two years we went to all the same lectures and labs together and were often spotted walking hand in hand across the Fens to the department. In third year Tim started the Electrical and Information Sciences Tripos and I began to study Fluid Mechanics in more depth, along with Materials, Dynamics and Vibrations, and Mechanics of Solids.

In fourth year we left College accommodation and shared a house with three of our friends in Lensfield Road, close to the Engineering department. The five of us had a great year, barbecuing from March (perhaps a little early in the season for it!), watching the Simpson’s and Knight Rider on cable television, and undertaking our fourth year projects and modules. We graduated together in June 2002.

Tim and I spent part of the summer travelling around Western Europe - it was a great experience and we have many happy memories of it. In October of 2002 we returned to full time work. Tim returned to Thales and I returned to Airbus to complete the graduate scheme, before settling in to my permanent role as an Aerodynamics Engineer. I am currently working on VELA, a European Union research project into Blended Wing Bodies.

Outside of work and planning the wedding, I enjoy reading, walking in the countryside and visiting museums and art galleries. I like a wide variety of music. I love films, particularly science fiction and thrillers. I'm looking forward to September, when Tim and I will get to embark on our next big adventure...
